BOULDER, Colo.—The annual rite of passage is taking place in Boulder as members of the University of Colorado’s new freshman class move into the dorms.

Sorority members were among the fleet of volunteers helping the newest CU students unload their parents’ cars and carry boxes during Tuesday’s first wave of move-ins.

The university expects about 5,500 freshmen this fall. Last year’s class of 5,833 students on the Boulder campus was a record.

More than 100 volunteers are helping during move-in week. The groups lending a hand include the football and women’s basketball teams, the Black Student Alliance and the St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Center.
