LINCOLN, Neb.—A Lincoln man has been named athlete of the year by the National Congress of State Games.
Dave Sutko competed in 25 different events in the Cornhusker State Games this year. He chose 25 events to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the state games.
Sutko said a battle with a serious staph infection inspired him to take on any challenges he encounters. He faced the prospect of having his left arm amputated if a final round of antibiotics didn’t work. Fortunately for Sutko, the medicine worked.
Sutko’s list of events ranged from skydiving to tug of war.
