This year’s “VH1 Divas” concertairing live Sept. 17 on VH1 — will honor five female singers. Here are the women as presented in the words of Rick Krim, the show’s executive producer.

Kelly Clarkson

“Kelly, being the first Idol, transcended the ‘Idol’ thing a long time ago. Now people hardly think of her as an ‘American Idol’ girl. She’s a great singer, and from what we’ve seen in the time we’ve worked with her, she couldn’t be more of a hard worker. She enjoys it too.”

Miley Cyrus

“When she first came out, her appeal was young. But then a song like ‘The Climb’ — which was the first Miley video we ever played, and it’s worked really well for us — opened her up to everybody. Miley doesn’t get enough credit for her singing ability. She grew up on stage, and she’s a great performer. She is excited to show that she can really sing — to get out on a stage with these other live voices.”

Leona Lewis

“We shot her last week while she was working on a record in the studio. She was a ‘You Oughtta Know’ artist for VH1 when she first came out. She’s an amazing vocalist, and her new song goes to radio a day or two after the show airs. They’re using ‘Divas’ and some other stuff to launch the single. And it’s an amazing song.”

Jordin Sparks

“A bunch of our team went to see her last night, because she’s opening for Britney right now. She’s a great performer. And she’s also really sweet. She won ‘American Idol,’ so she’s obviously a great singer. And she’s got a big hit right now, so that’s always helpful.”

Adele

“We embraced her very early on. She was a VH1 ‘You Oughtta Know’ artist, and our biggest success story from last year. We got behind her early, and that led to a best-new-artist Grammy. She just turned 21, she was 19 when the record came out, and she’s so confident in her abilities and in her own skin. She shoots straight from the hip.”
