CHEYENNE — Barely a trace of Craig Arnold, 41, has been found since he went missing April 26 while hiking on a volcano on the tiny Japanese island of Kuchinoerabu-jima. The University of Wyoming professor was traveling the world and collecting observations for a book he was writing about volcanoes.
The English Department plans to hold a memorial service in Craig Arnold’s honor Wednesday.
“We are sad and sadly resigned to the fact that we don’t expect Craig to return. This isn’t the way we wanted this story to turn out,” department chairman Peter Parolin said Friday.
Selections of his work will be read at the memorial service.
Other readings are planned Sept. 9 in Salt Lake City, Nov. 1 in New York and next April in Denver, said his girlfriend, Rebecca Lindenberg. The Associated Press
