Dognappers snatched a young Chihuahua from a Greeley shelter Monday and sped away in an SUV, the business owner said.

The four-pound Chihuahua, Walter, was stolen at about 4 p.m. from K-9 Bed & Biscuit.

A young couple, in their 20s, spent a “great deal of time” looking at “adoptable” dogs, according to a media release.

The young man left in a “hurry” and the young woman was not with him. Employees saw the man “speed off” in a newer-model, tan, Chevrolet Tahoe and noticed the woman’s feet “sticking out” of the SUV.

Employees checked on the dogs and Walter was missing.

The shelter also operates as a boarding and grooming business. Employees said the man had tattoos and was wearing a hoody.

Greeley police are investigating the incident, the business said.
