The Denver Foundation has instituted new measures to prevent fraud after an Archdiocese of Denver official was charged this week with bilking the charity of more than $391,000.

“It is our hope that the alleged actions of these individuals will not detract from help we’ve been able to provide to hundreds of individuals,” according to the statement issued after Ruth Gonzales’ arrest.

Gonzales, 58, of Centennial, the former construction director for Archdiocesan Housing, a division of Catholic Charities, admitted to investigators that she submitted hundreds of phony applications for people allegedly down on their luck between 2005 and 2009 and forged the approval of nuns and other Catholic Charities employees.
