CSI-BLOOD EVIDENCE

OMAHA—An FBI agent says a Nebraska crime-scene investigator told her during a 2008 interview that he believed blood evidence he collected in a double-murder case two years earlier had been cross-contaminated. Gina Palokangas took the stand Tuesday in Douglas County CSI commander David Kofoed’s federal trial. She testified he told her the cross-contamination could have happened because the tool he used had possibly been at the Murdock home where Wayne and Sharmon Stock were found shot to death in 2006. It depends on whom you ask, and not even farmers and ranchers agree on the matter. By Margery A. Gibbs. Eds: Moved on state and national news and financial lines.

The Business Conditions Index for the Mid-America region slipped below growth neutral in August, to 48.4, compared with 51.7 in July and 49.3 in June. An index of 50.0 is considered growth neutral.
