A retired wildlife officer found human remains while dove hunting near Pueblo on Saturday.

“He noticed a coyote or some other animal was digging up a shallow grave. He went and looked at it and noticed there were human remains,” said Pueblo County Sheriff’s Dep. Laurie Kilpatrick.

Coroner James Kramer has identified the remains as human and suggested that they may not have come to the location naturally. The gender of the body and cause of death are so far unknown, Kilpatrick said.

Investigators are presently continuing their excavation of the scene.
