CENTENNIAL, Colo.—Sentencing has been delayed a second time for a man facing execution in the death of an Aurora trial witness.
A judge was to hand down the death penalty Thursday for 23-year-old Robert Ray, but he delayed that until Oct. 16 so he could hear defense motions about trial testimony and at about least one juror.
Ray was convicted of first-degree murder in May in the deaths of Javad Marshall-Fields, who was going to testify against him, and Vivian Wolfe, Marshall-Field’s fiance. Jurors decided on a life sentence for Ray for killing Wolfe.
Jurors in Colorado decide the penalty in murder cases. Judges formally hand down the sentence.
The earlier delay came after Ray’s attorneys said prosecutors didn’t give them the information they needed to cross-examine a witness.
