“In the fall, there are so many home projects that homeowners can engage in to help prepare their gardens and houses for the change in weather,” says Jim Fricke, Colorado Garden Show executive director. So the 2009 Colorado Fall Home Show happening today and Sunday at the Colorado Convention Center will include exhibitors and workshops on renovation, remodeling, interior design, cooking, sustainable living and energy efficiency. Show hours are 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. today and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday. Admission: $10-$12; kids 12 and under are admitted free. Details at or call 303-932-8100.
Table temptations
As if the savory eats and Mediterranean pastimes weren’t enough to draw crowds to the 6th Annual Festival Italiano Food & Wine Festival today and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. at Belmar, the event is also a chance to glean budget decorating and entertaining tips. Members of the Interior Redesign & Staging Industry Specialists (IRIS), a national group that hosts its 10th annual conference and expo in Golden Sept. 24-26, will team up with Goodwill Industries of Denver to decorate six tables at the festival’s chef demonstration tent. Attendees can vote on their favorite tablescapes — like this one assembled by IRIS member Erica Starich. Then the tablescapes will be awarded as prizes to six drawing winners. Wallpaper with pop
“A wallpaper designer is a trompe l’oeil artist,” says wallpaper guru Ronald Redding of York Wallcoverings. “Now we are adding actual texture to the paper with layers of repurposed sand and recycled glass beads.” York’s recycled windshield glass wallpapers pop thanks to techniques like mixing metallic glitter into glass for subtle sparkle, or layering metallic ink over repurposed sand for a dimensional quality reminiscent of authentic tin ceilings. $99-$159 per roll.
