SAN DIEGO — Jiyai Shin shot a 3-under-par 69 to take a one-shot lead over No. 1-ranked Lorena Ochoa and Ai Miyazato in the second round of the Samsung World Championship at Torrey Pines on Friday.

Shin, who was tied for the lead after the opening round, has a 36- hole total of 135 atop the elite field of 20. She was 10-under for the tournament after sinking a 20-foot birdie putt on the par-5 13th, but followed with a bogey and finished with four straight pars.

Ochoa had a seesaw round of 69 that started with a bogey on No. 1 — her first of four — and ended with a 20-foot chip for eagle on 18.

Miyazato made a late charge and might have tied Shin, but her second shot on the par-5 18th splashed into the big pond that protects the green, leading to her only bogey.She finished with a 68.

Jay Haas shot a 10-under 62 in the first round of the rain-delayed Greater Hickory Classic in Con- over, N.C., taking a three-shot lead over Gil Morgan.

Benn Barham fired a 5-under 66 and equaled the lowest 36-hole score on the European Tour this season, a 13-under 129 at the Austrian Open in Oberwaltersdorf, Austria, that has him two strokes ahead of Richard Green (66).

Shock beats Dream, advances

DULUTH, Ga. — Deanna Nolan scored 22 points and Shavonte Zellous added 21 to help the Detroit Shock advance to the WNBA’s Eastern Conference finals with a 94-79 victory over the Atlanta Dream.

Camille Little stole an inbounds pass and hit a layup with five seconds left as the Seattle Storm defeated the visiting Los Angeles Sparks 75-74 and evened the best-of-three Western Conference semifinals at a game apiece.

Injured Chimera wheeled off ice

ST. PAUL, Minn. — Columbus Blue Jackets forward Jason Chimera was wheeled off the ice on a stretcher after being checked into the boards by Minnesota Wild center Eric Belanger.

Chimera gave two thumbs up on his way off the ice, and a team official said he was coherent. He was taken to a hospital for evaluation.

• The Toronto Maple Leafs acquired the rights to forward Phil Kessel from the Boston Bruins in exchange for first- and second- round picks in the 2010 draft, along with a first-round pick in 2011.

• New York Islanders forward Pascal Morency has been suspended indefinitely after leaving the bench to start a fight with Calgary Flames defenseman Dion Phaneuf during Thursday’s exhibition game.
