Hankering for a film shot through with contempt for the working man — and anyone else? Writer-director Jody Hill’s unfunny tale of a mall security guard who plays a detective will fit the bill. Usually likable Seth Rogen is borderline Ronnie Barnhardt. Often-winning Anna Faris is a beastly cosmetics-counter worker. Hill aimed to combine “Taxi Driver” with a comedy. He misses. He wounds. But the wedding of his brother drags Mead back to the family estate, back to where he learned his womanizing ways from his late Uncle Wayne, back to the girl he let get away. Bard Owe wins us over, seemingly without exertion, as the spartan, solitary figure, Odd Horten, who after 40 years of dedicated service is being nudged into retirement. Norwegian director Bent Hamer (“Kitchen Stories”) delivers a hushed dramedy about where we head when our destinations no longer follow schedules, timetables or our commitment to our own expectations.
