LINCOLN, Neb.—A Colorado-based utility will increase the rates it charges for providing natural gas in several Nebraska communities.

SourceGas has asked the Nebraska Public Service Commission for permission to increase both its distribution and usage rates. It will be months before the commission makes a decision on the request, but state law allows utilities to charge interim rates until a decision is made.

SourceGas will increase residential delivery rates to $15.44 from $10.44 a month. Also, the cost of natural gas will rise to 50 cents a therm from 35 cents.

Lakewood, Colo.-based SourceGas serves about 90,000 customers in central and western Nebraska. Cities it serves include Holdrege, McCook, Scottsbluff and Wood River.
