A 61-year-old Aurora woman died this morning after being hit by a car.

The accident happened at about 8:30 a.m. near the intersection of East Alameda Parkway and South Kalispell Way, according to a media release from the Aurora Police Department.

Rhetta Stafford was crossing Alameda about 95 feet west of the intersection and outside a painted pedestrian crosswalk when she was hit by a 1998 Saturn, police said.

Stafford was taken to a local hospital where she died of her injuries, police said.

The 17-year-old driver of the Saturn was westbound on Alameda. Stafford had crossed the eastbound lanes and a median before she was struck by the Saturn in the right lane, police said.

Excessive speed, alcohol or drugs were not a factor in the accident, police said. The investigation is ongoing.
