DENVER—Denver’s Columbus Day parade is on—despite a confusing e-mail that falsely said Saturday’s downtown celebration was canceled for lack of funds.

The Sons of Italy’s Columbus Day Parade Committee organizer Richard SaBell says someone used his name to send an e-mail Thursday to the Denver mayor’s office saying the parade was canceled. When area media started reporting the cancellation, SaBell said he had no idea who sent the e-mail and called police.

SaBell said he reported the phony e-mail to police. He said more than 200 people are participating in the parade, including horses and three bands.
