AIR FORCE ACADEMY — Troy Calhoun preferred to look ahead Saturday night once out of the frigid temperatures, perhaps spurred by what he had just seen.

Sure, the Air Force coach said there wasn’t any joy in losing. His Falcons had fought hard in a 20-17 loss to TCU, but they had a chance to win.

“I think we’re only going to get better,” Calhoun said. “We have to take advantage of these next six ballgames. If we push in these next six games, it could be a big step forward for our program. We have to earn it; they’re not going to be easy. My gut tells me that we’re going to be a better football team this second half of the season.”

The Falcons begin a key stretch of their schedule Saturday against Wyoming, and the path will determine if they become eligible to play in a bowl game with the required six minimum victories.

“I feel as if we can play with anybody through the rest of the season,” defensive back Reggie Rembert said. “We were right there with TCU tonight.

“We have to keep building as a team. I don’t know if we played our best football here tonight, but we played pretty good.”

Linebacker Justin Moore said the Horned Frogs were the best team the Falcons have played this year.

“We played hard most of the game, but they just played better,” Moore said. “We started to settle down after the first few drives when we finally saw what was going on.

“We have to play some good teams in our conference. If we can build off of this, it could carry us through the rest of the season.”

Injuries.

Linebacker Andre Morris left the field in the first half after a hard collision and didn’t return. Calhoun said he didn’t have details of the injury, but he didn’t think it was a concussion.
