RAPID CITY, S.D.—Black Hills Corp. this past week announced that a subsidiary will build a 200 megawatt natural gas-fired electric power plant in Colorado.
The plant is expected to cost between $240 million and $265 million and should be completed and ready for operation by January 2012. It will consist of two 100 megawatt units, each with two 40 megawatt natural gas-fired combustion turbines and one 20 megawatt steam turbine, operated in a combined cycle mode.
Black Hills Colorado IPP will sell the power to Black Hills Energy-Colorado Electric through a 20-year power purchase agreement. The agreement is subject to approval by the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission.
Sites near the Black Hills Energy-Colorado Electric service area are being considered for the facility.
