With three very funny guys on the bill — headliner Craig Ferguson, veterinarian/ stand-up comic Kevin Fitzgerald and Chris Parente from The Deuce TV — Girls Night Out delivered the laughs. Big time.
And now here’s something else that’ll put a smile on everyone’s face: The final tallies are in, and with 900 guests, the dinner chaired by Melinda Dark and Rickie Jones raised $200,000 for Girls Inc. of Metro Denver.
“And that’s very exciting in light of where the economy is right now,” Jones said.
The crowd was mostly female, and many wore plaid as a tribute to Ferguson’s Scottish heritage. The honorary chairs, Nanette Fishman and Susan Blake Smith, were given plaid sashes, embellished with brilliants, to wear with the rhinestone tiaras that designated their status. “I’m wearing enough bling to sink the Titanic,” Fishman observed.
Katie Dark, a member of the Girls Inc. Junior Alliance, channeled her inner Audrey Hepburn — little black dress and hair styled in a French twist — to model the Tiffany pearl necklace and bracelet that was part of the evening’s prize giveaways.
Carol Bowar, the agency’s president/CEO, was happy to see two of her predecessors, Colleen Colarelli and Christine Soto, in the crowd that also included benefactors Cydney and Tammy Marsico; corporate committee chairs Julie Howell and Lindsey Miller; and the three who will chair Girls Night Out 2010, when “Saturday Night Live” head writer Seth Meyers is the star: Becky Gutrich, Kim Laycob and Julia Simon.Shannon Saviers, who heads the Girls Inc. board, and her husband, John, were at a table with Vienna Presley, grants officer for the Cydney and Tom Marsico Family Foundation; JoKatherine Holliman Page; and Susan Hagar, who chaired the benefit’s PR committee with Cissie Megyesy.
Others enjoying a good laugh: Junior Alliance members Whitney Averill, Liza Olson, KC Lang and Isabel Keegan; Kim Haverly, who works for Western Union and serves on the Girls Inc. board; Heather Faircloth; MJ Powers; Robyn Roggensack; Stephanie Fuentes; Erin Gilbert; Jane Hoselton; Kay Stallworthy; Sara Grace and daughter Hillary Adams, also a member of the Girls Inc. board; Judith Ann Newman; and the co-presidents of the sponsoring Girls Inc. Alliance, Stacey Baumhauer and Tami Beardsley. This ‘n’ that.
