Stephen Dailey, a 20-year-old Denver man, was charged today with attempted first-degree murder for allegedly shaking his 8-week-old son, Stephen, in their Lincoln Street home on Sept. 15.
When emergency services responded to the 200 block of Lincoln Street, Dailey’s infant son was not breathing.
The boy has been at Denver Health Medical Center since the incident, and was on life support at the time the affidavit was filed Friday. The infant’s injuries, which doctors told detectives included bleeding on the brain, were considered life-threatening and, even if the baby survives, are likely to cause serious impairment, the affidavit said.
The baby’s mother told detectives she left her son with his father to go shopping at about 4:30 p.m. The affidavit said Dailey called her at 4:50 p.m. to tell her the their son was injured.
Denver District Attorney Mitch Morrissey also charged Dailey with felony child abuse resulting in serious bodily injury and a crime of violence.
Dailey is being held in the Denver County Jail with bail set at $150,000. He is to appear in court for a second advisement of charges at 9 a.m. Friday.
