The Colorado women’s basketball team was picked to finish 11th this season in Big 12 Conference play according to the league’s annual coaches preseason poll, released Thursday.
The Buffaloes, 11-18 overall and 3-13 in the Big 12 (last place) in 2008-09, received 22 votes in the poll, seven more than projected 12th-place finisher Missouri.
Baylor, the 2009 Big 12 Tournament champion, was picked as the preseason favorite. The Bears received five first-place votes. Kansas and Texas tied for second in the poll, each receiving three first-place votes.
Coaches could not vote for their own team.
Others projected by the poll to finish in the upper tier were No. 4 Texas A&M (one first-place vote), No. 5 Oklahoma and No. 6 Nebraska.
