Bears feed on Rebels

Cool-hand Lukas:

Bear Creek’s Lukas Lockett rolled to 211 yards rushing and five touchdowns as the Bears knocked off Columbine 34-7 on Thursday in the Class 5A Big 8 League.

The Falcons and the sophomores:

Joe Hansley, one of his team’s multiple 10th-graders, rushed for 207 yards and threw a scoring pass as Highlands Ranch tamed Chaparral 38-26 on Friday in the 5A Southern League.

Three and only three:

Camden Castor’s 22-yard field goal in the first quarter on Friday was all Standley Lake needed to down Brighton 3-0 as the Gators handed the Bulldogs their first 4A North Metro setback.

WORSTS

No clock, no guarantees

So much for seeding:

Softball has no clock. It’s about getting a certain number of outs, as evidenced by Saturday’s upper-class district rounds that produced a surprising number of upsets for next weekend’s state championships. In Class 5A, there were a bunch — 23rd-seeded Loveland is in, as are Chatfield (28), Lakewood (30) and Grandview (31). Chatfield, Lakewood and Grandview each are 11-11. The trick remains to unseat two-time defending champion Legacy and pitcher Shelby Babcock, right. In 4A, Golden (25) and Palisade (29) qualified. Keep the following in mind if you head to the Aurora Sports Park: Anyone can win; it’s why they play the games.
