Denver Public Schools administrators are deferring to police in the investigation of an incident Wednesday in which a Palmer Elementary School staffer reportedly bound a student with tape.

The staffer, who has not been named, was immediately placed on paid leave for the duration of the investigation, said Denver Public Schools spokesman Mike Vaughn.

“This is a very troubling allegation that will be investigated thoroughly, and we will take strong action to address the matter if the allegations are substantiated,” he said in an e-mail.

The age of the student has not been disclosed by school officials. The incident allegedly happened about 2:30 p.m. Wednesday.

The school at 995 Grape St. has about 20 full-time teachers and 300 students in pre-kindergarten through fifth grade.
