BRIGHTON, Colo.—A 23-year-old man has been convicted for the shooting death of an Aurora code enforcement officer during a routine apartment inspection.
Adams County jurors delivered their guilty verdict against Harry Williams Friday afternoon after beginning deliberations in the morning.
Williams was immediately sentenced to life in prison, the mandatory sentence for first-degree murder.
Prosecutors say a code-enforcement officer saw Williams run out of his apartment complex with a gun after 40-year-old Rodney Morales was shot last year. They also told jurors gunshot residue was found on Williams’ clothing and that a bullet cartridge at the scene partially matched his DNA profile.
Williams’ defense team argued it was a case of mistaken identity.
