Art Brut’s name is rooted in fine arts theory, but its sound is all lumbering, cross-eyed punk hooks. Like a brown- toothed Hold Steady, the group bangs its way through rambling narratives with as many punchlines as cheeky socio-political critiques. Also on the bill: CMJ buzz band Surfer Blood, whose Shins-meets-Weezer confections hold considerable promise, and locals Jim McTurnan and the Kids That Killed the Man, featuring members of Cat-A-Tac, Fell and the Pseudo Dates. Tonight. $15. Ticketmaster.

Pinback is frequently taken for granted for its stunning, clockwork consistency, but the band is more dragon blood than robot sweat. The San Diego indie rock act is on a seemingly never-ending tour, which brings it back to the Ogden Theatre tonight, with Jack Talcum. $20. Ticketmaster.

Regina Spektor might seem inscrutable or overrated to the casual listener, but the Russian-born singer is the real deal — albeit frequently cloaked in overly slick production and promoted like a faceless pop star. Spektor shines brightest live, so don’t miss her at the Fillmore on Saturday, with Jupiter One. $32.
