COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.—Colorado state Rep. Kent Lambert says he will run for the seat held by state Sen. Dave Schultheis (SHUL’-tice), who plans to retire at the end of next year.
Lambert said Thursday at El Paso County GOP headquarters that as a senator, he would be better positioned to fight what he says is rampant growth and waste of government.
He faces a GOP primary challenge from retired businessman Tom McDowell.
Lambert is a former aide to Schultheis. The 57-year-old Air Force Academy graduate and retired colonel also worked for state Sen. Keith King.
Lambert says he plans to still serve next year in the House, where he was appointed to the legislative Joint Budget Committee.
