The northbound lanes of Interstate 25 near Fort Collins were shut down by a fatal traffic accident this afternoon.
A Ford van rear-ended a Kenworth tractor-trailer on the highway at about 1:10 p.m. near the Harmony Road interchange, said Trooper David Hall, a spokesman with the Colorado State Patrol.
The driver of the van, identified as Dale T. Walter, 51, of Loveland sustained fatal injuries and was declared dead at the Medical Center of the Rockies, the state patrol said. He was not wearing a seat belt.
The driver of the Kenworth, Joseph N. Roper, 54, of Fort Lupton, was wearing a seat belt and was not injured.
The lanes were reopened just after 3 p.m..
