The Metro State and Fort Lewis men’s and women’s soccer teams will face off in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference championship as both schools won their semifinal matches Friday.

The Metro State men’s team advances after defeating Colorado Mines 5-4 in a shootout at Dirk’s Field in Durango. After entering the shootout tied 1-1, the Roadrunners made all five of their kicks. Goaltender Dominique Griffith stopped Drew Werth’s attempt for Colorado Mines to send Metro to the championship game Sunday.

The Roadrunners will face host Fort Lewis, which defeated Regis 6-1. Six different Skyhawk players recorded a goal to earn their spot in the championship.

Jordan Brandel scored the lone goal for Regis.

The Metro State women’s team will also face Fort Lewis in the championship game Sunday at Auraria Field. The Roadrunners improved to 20-1 and earned their fifth 20-win season as they defeated Regis 5-1 in the semifinals.

Jen Thomas scored two goals for Metro State, while Becca Maloney stopped a season-high eight shots for the Roadrunners in goal. Chelsea Reichard scored for Regis.

Fort Lewis rallied to defeat Colorado Mines 3-2 at Auraria Field. Down 2-1, Jamie MacArthur tied the game for the Skyhawks in the 54th minute, and Hayley Hollenga scored the game-winner — her second goal of the match — with just over six minutes left.

CC notches first loss in WCHA.

The Colorado College hockey team lost its first game in league play, falling 4-3 to Minnesota-Duluth at World Arena.

The Tigers led 3-2 entering the third period, but allowed two goals in the final ten minutes of the game to lose to the team that knocked them out of last season’s WCHA playoffs in the first round.

The Tigers (4-2-1, 3-1-1) had a chance to even the score in the final three minutes of the game when Minnesota-Duluth was called for two penalities, but CC failed to capitalize on the two-man advantage.

AFA goes to OT.

The Air Force hockey team rallied from a 3-1 deficit to tie Bentley University 3-3 Friday night at Cadet Ice Arena.

A second-period goal from Scott Mathis and a third- period tally by Kyle DeLaurell gave the Falcons (3-5-1, 3-1-1) the tie and sent the game into overtime.

Cowgirl out for season.

Wyoming women’s basketball coach Joe Legerski said sophomore Ashley Sickles has suffered a season-ending knee injury.

Sickles injured her right knee in an exhibition game against Adams State on Monday. She will have surgery over the next couple of weeks.
