HOUSTON — A man has been sentenced to more than 14 years in prison for his role in the deadliest human-smuggling attempt in U.S. history.
Prosecutors say Abelardo Flores, 40, was in a ring that packed more than 70 immigrants into the back of a tractor-trailer in May 2003. Nineteen died of dehydration, overheating and suffocation.
