LANDOVER, MD. — Kyle Orton suffered an ankle injury on his final snap of the first half and is listed as doubtful to play in the second half.
Chris Simms, in his first possession of the season, led the Broncos to first downs, but his first possession ended in a short Mitch Berger punt.
Orton was running for a short gain inside the Redskins’ 10-yard line when he was tackled by rookie Brian Orakpo. Orton came up limping.
The Broncos went into halftime leading 17-14, but they must hope Simms can play well in his first significant action since suffering a spleen injury early in the 2006 season while playing for Tampa Bay.
