Rapids striker Conor Casey streaked his way toward the top of the MLS scoring table this season. For his effort, he was picked Monday for the MLS all-pro team.

Casey became the sixth player in Rapids history named to the MLS Best XI. The all-pro team is voted on by media and MLS players, coaches and general managers.

Casey finished the season with 16 goals in 24 games, a Rapids scoring record. He was joined on the all-pro front line by FC Dallas’ Jeff Cunningham, whose 17 goals this season edged Casey for the Golden Boot award as the league’s top scorer.

Casey is the first Rapids player on the MLS Best XI team since goalkeeper Joe Cannon in 2004.

Mammoth going with Gallant as captain.

The Colorado Mammoth named veteran defenseman John Gallant team captain for the 2010 season. Bruce Murray, a defenseman, and transition player Nick Carlson will be co-captains, the lacrosse team announced. Gallant is one of two Mammoth players who remain from the Washington team that moved to Denver in 2003.

NCAA volleyball field includes Mines.

The Colorado Mines volleyball team will join Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Tournament champion Metro State in the NCAA Tournament for Division II teams.

Metro State, Colorado Mines and regular-season RMAC champion Nebraska-Kearney are in the Central Regional hosted by the nation’s top-ranked team, Concordia-St. Paul. UNK is the No. 3 seed, Metro No. 7 and Mines No. 8. Matches begin Thursday.

Californians commit to CU golf team.

University of Colorado women’s golf coach Anne Kelly received commitments from three California players, twins Jenny and Kristin Coleman of Rolling Hills Estates and Tessa The (pronounced “Tay”) of Los Altos.

The Coleman sisters are four-year letter winners at their high school and The qualified for the U.S. Women’s Amateur in 2008.
