An on-site manager for a Denver homeowners association has been charged with multiple counts of theft and forgery, accused of stealing $308,000 from the association over a five-year period.

Accused is 49-year-old Tamara Jane Chmelka, who was hired in October 2004 as the on-site manager of the Portico Homeowners Association.

The Denver district attorney’s office alleges Chmelka began stealing from the HOA as early as December 2004 and continued until June, when bank officials alerted the HOA to irregularities in Portico’s bank accounts.

Chmelka resigned her position at Portico in June.

She faces a total of 15 counts, including 10 counts of theft, four counts of forgery and one count of computer crime. Howard Pankratz, The Denver Post
