“Travels to the Edge: A Photo Odyssey” ($24.95, Mountaineers Books) is a companion to the public television series with photographer Art Wolfe, whose images stand on their own as terrific glimpses of places we might not get to see in person — Kenya, Madagascar, Ethiopia, South Georgia Island. But even in those locales more easily accessed, such as Alaska and Peru, things look a little different. Wolfe has a way with people and animals in particular, and the landscapes also benefit from his obvious passion for unusual views. Each photo is accompanied by a short narrative on why it was chosen and some background on the location. Kyle Wagner
