ASPEN — The Aspen Valley Ski and Snowboard Club is taking part in researching concussions on young skiers and snowboarders.
The group is partnering with Aspen Orthopaedic Associates this winter to collect data, some of which will come from a wireless system placed inside athletes’ helmets.
Project leader Zach Stutzman said the research will document the number and severity of impacts to skiers and snowboarders on the slopes and perhaps show how the impacts relate to those seen in other sports, such as hockey and football.
Stutzman said head injuries from skiing are a leading cause of recreational deaths in Colorado.
