BOULDER, Colo.—Police in Boulder believe drugs played a role in a school bus accident.

A driver taking 17 students to Boulder High School went off the road and hit a retaining wall Monday morning. Nobody was hurt.

Police say the driver, 62-year-old Robert Lecy (LESS-ee), was under the influence of drugs, but they haven’t determined whether it was prescription medication or illegal drugs. Tests aren’t expected to be complete for at least 10 days.

Lecy has an unlisted phone number. A police report says Lecy told officers he had taken the sleep aid Ambien on Sunday night.

Police spokeswoman Sarah Huntley says police plan to recommend Lecy be charged with careless driving and driving under the influence of drugs.
