COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.—A man living in a growing homeless camp in Colorado Springs was found dead on Thanksgiving morning.

Camp mates said they discovered the body of 53-year-old Ray Medina outside his tepee along Fountain Creek. It’s not known yet how he died but police don’t suspect foul play.

Friends said Medina had spent much of the previous day with them drinking and laughing.

The unemployed bricklayer had recently been featured in a Gazette story about the growing homeless population along the creek. Medina said he moved from Grand Junction about three years ago after hearing about construction jobs at Fort Carson.

He had promised himself that he would spend the winter in the tepee. He recently put down a cardboard floor inside and gave a tent to a camp mate.
