Air Force coach Troy Calhoun brings his football team back together today to begin practice for a postseason game that is expected to be the Armed Forces Bowl on Dec. 31 in Fort Worth, Texas.
Calhoun said Thursday that quarterback Tim Jefferson is ready to go after missing part of the season’s finale Nov. 21 against Brigham Young with a back injury.
“Tim took a pretty good shot to the back of the rib cage, but he’s ready to resume practice,” Calhoun said. “We’ve set practices for Friday and Saturday this week and Friday of next week. We’ll decide the rest of the practice schedule next week.”
Air Force is expected to assemble Dec. 26 in Fort Worth and have three or four practices there. Speculation is that the Falcons will play Southern Mississippi.
Calhoun believes several of his players who were injured at the end of the season could return for the bowl game.
Quarterback Connor Dietz could return to practice today after missing the last four games with a broken bone in his right hand. Junior receiver Kyle Halderman and sophomore linebacker Brady Amack could return at some point during the practice schedule and play in the bowl.
