COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.—A judge has sentenced a woman from Security to life in prison without parole in the fatal shooting of her sister’s boyfriend.

Twenty-nine-year-old Denise Lynne Presson was sentenced after a jury convicted her Thursday of menacing and of first-degree murder in the shooting of 28-year-old Victor San Miguel on Dec. 18. The jury acquitted her of the attempted first-degree murder of her sister, Nicole Bachman.

Presson claimed she shot San Miguel because she suspected he was molesting her nephew. The boy and his mother denied the allegation.

Presson acted as her own attorney at trial after firing her public defenders Monday. They had argued that Presson was mentally incompetent to stand trial.
