FORT COLLINS — Colorado State junior hitter Danielle Minch, the Mountain West Conference player of the year, powered the Rams to a 3-1 upset of No. 6 seed Washington Friday and the Rams’ first trip to the NCAA women’s volleyball regional since 2003.
CSU took advantage of 16 Huskie service errors and appeared headed for a three-set sweep before Washington rallied to take the third set 25-21. That was all that was left for the Pac-10 runners-up, as the Rams closed out with a 25-19 fourth-set win.
The Rams head to the Minneapolis Regional to play the winner of the Tennessee-Minnesota first-round game. CSU blanked Tennessee earlier in the season.
