CORVALLIS, Ore. — Calvin Haynes came off the bench to score 19 points, leading Oregon State (3-3) to a come-from-behind 74-69 win over Colorado (5-3) on Friday night.
Colorado streaked to a 9-4 lead to start the game and led 36-31 at halftime. The Buffs maintained their lead until 8:41 was left in the second half, when Haynes nailed a jumper.
CU tied the game at 64 with 3:27 left on Marcus Relphorde’s 3-pointer, then took a 69-68 lead on Relphorde’s two free throws with 1:35 left. Haynes regained the lead for the Beavers with a jumper, and CU’s Nate Tomlinson missed two free throws with 46 seconds left that could have given Colorado the lead. Jared Cunningham and Seth Tarver sealed the win with free throws.
Alec Burks led CU with 19 points, and Cory Higgins added 15.
Montana State 87, Northern Colo. 63
BOZEMAN, Mont. — Marquise Navarre scored a career-high 22 points, and Bobby Howard added 21 points and nine rebounds as Montana State opened Big Sky Conference play with an 87-63 rout of previously unbeaten Northern Colorado.
Navarre scored 12 points in the first half and led MSU (3-3, 1-0) on a 15-2 run that turned a six-point deficit into a 28-21 lead. The Bobcats led 35-33 at halftime, but scored the first nine points of the second half and never let the Bears (7-1, 0-1) get closer than six the rest of the way.
Navarre’s previous career best was 14 points against Boise State in 2008. MSU, which hit 10-of-25 from beyond the 3-point arc, had five players score in double figures.
Senior guard Will Figures had 24 points to lead UNC.
