An unticketed passenger was delivered on a Southwest Airlines flight Friday morning about 100 miles north of Denver.
The birth of the baby boy occurred about 10:45 a.m. on Southwest Flight 441, bound for Salt Lake City and Boise, Idaho from Chicago and Columbus, Ohio. It was diverted to Denver International Airport, where medical crews met the mother and baby.
“We were fortunate to have a couple of doctors on board, and a couple of nurses as well,” Southwest spokesman Chris Mainz said.
The mom was moved to the back galley, where she was assisted in giving birth, Mainz said.
“This is not the first time a baby has been born on a flight,” Mainz said, “but it doesn’t happen every day.”
