DULUTH, Minn.—Denver goalie Marc Cheverie made 28 saves and Kyle Ostrow scored the game-winning goal as the Pioneers beat Minnesota-Duluth 3-2 Friday in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association.

Cheverie won for the ninth time in 11 starts this season for WCHA-leading Denver (11-4-2, 9-2-2). The Pioneers lead the conference with 20 points.

Cheverie’s 9-1-1 mark is the best in the WCHA.

Jesse Martin and Joe Colborne gave the Pioneers a 2-1 lead after two periods. Ostrow’s goal at 7:20 enabled Denver to withstand Mike Connolly’s goal at 10:25.

Drew Akins also scored for the Bulldogs (10-6-1, 7-5-1).

UMD goalie Brady Hjelle made 21 saves.
