It takes a cool guy to carry a television show called “Cool Tools.” Westminster resident Chris Grundy is just such a guy. Despite the fact that “Grundy!” as he introduces himself, has become a regular on the DIY Network, this actor and comedian still dons frayed jeans and lived-in fleece for shopping at his neighborhood hardware store. He also completes many of his own home projects.
The Chicago native visits tool shows and demos new tools on his show. But he doesn’t always select tools as holiday gifts. “You need to evaluate who you’re giving to,” Grundy says. “You don’t want to give, say, a circular saw to someone who’s never used one before.”
Instead, he suggests asking the handymen and -women on your holiday shopping list what they’re working on before picking out a tool gift.
One last tip: Always read the safety instructions for any tool, and be careful.
