The weekly conservative magazine Human Events has named former Vice President Dick Cheney its “Conservative of the Year.”
In an article explaining the magazine’s choice, John Bol ton, the former U.S. ambassador to the United Nations, cites “the key themes that Cheney has sounded since leaving the Vice Presidency: the critical need to understand that we are in a long, continuing war against international terrorism, the importance of sustaining and enhancing our defenses and capabilities against terrorism and the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction, and the risks we face in letting our guard down.”
In particular, Bolton noted Cheney’s defense of waterboarding, Guantanamo Bay and domestic intelligence gathering.
