Amateur skiers and snowboarders get their chance to “Flow to Pro” this weekend when the first Gatorade Free Flow Tour stops in Vail. This step-up kicker into the pro ranks offers winners in snowboard and skiing slopestyle and superpipe competition a trip to the Dew Tour’s Toyota Championship event Feb. 5-7 at Mount Snow Resort in Vermont, where they will compete in the Free Flow Tour Finals. Winners of that contest earn an opportunity to compete against the pros at the first stop of the 2010-11 Winter Dew Tour.
Competition is open to 110 amateur skiers and snowboarders 21 or younger, with a registration fee of $20. (Participants under 18 need a parent’s permission.) Snowboarding disciplines will have separate competitions for men and women, while the freeski contests will be open to both. Competition begins with slopestyle events at 10 a.m. Saturday, followed by superpipe starting at 10 a.m. Sunday.
A second Colorado stop on the Gatorade Free Flow Tour is scheduled Jan. 23-24 at Keystone.
