BUENA VISTA, Colo.—State and federal officials have scheduled a public meeting in Buena Vista (BYOON’-uh -VIHS’-tuh) on a proposed federal lease for geothermal development in the area.
The U.S. Bureau of Land Management and the Colorado Department of Natural Resources will share information on the proposal in a Jan. 14 meeting at the Buena Vista Community Center.
A 799-acre parcel west of Buena Vista up for lease in the BLM auction Feb. 11 will be the first offered for geothermal development in Colorado. The BLM withdrew the parcel from its last auction to consult with the state on questions about water rights.
Geothermal power uses heat from the earth to heat buildings and run power plants.
