SASKATOON, Saskatchewan—Dean Blais (Blaze) will return to his job at the University of Nebraska at Omaha as a world-championship hockey coach.

Blais’ United States team captured the world junior hockey championships with a 6-5 overtime win over Canada on Tuesday night in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. John Carlson scored the winning goal after the Canadians had come back from a 5-3 deficit to tie the game.

Blais’ team ended the Canadians streak of five straight world titles.

It was Blais’ second time as U.S. juniors coach. In 1994, his squad won only one of its seven games at the world championships.

Blais returns to coach UNO in Friday’s home game against Alaska.
