DENVER—A Democratic lawmaker lost his committee vice chairmanship on Friday after he welcomed Gov. Bill Ritter’s decision not to run for re-election.

Rep. Edward Casso of Commerce City, who has tangled with the governor over union issues, will remain on the Business Affairs and Labor Committee but will no longer be the vice chair.

After Ritter announced his retirement, Casso said “As with most of his decisions in the last four years, the governor is a day late, a dollar short, and without regard except for his own well being and interests.”

Democratic House Speaker Terrance Carroll refused to comment on whether the comments prompted him to remove Casso from the vice chairman’s seat.
