Loveland SWAT officers arrested a barricaded man who threatened to kill himself and shoot them late last night, authorities say.

Officers were called to the house at 1250 E. 4th St. after 6 p.m. Justin Chase said.

Robert Townsend III had barricaded himself inside the house and when police arrived, he threatened to shoot them, Chase said.

SWAT team members were called to the scene and set up a perimeter. Neighbors were warned about the incident, he said.

Police gave Townsend numerous chances to surrender peacefully, but he refused to leave the house, Chase said.

Finally, SWAT officers fired chemical agents into the house, he said.

Shortly afterward, Townsend came out of the house and was arrested.

He was taken to a hospital and, when he was medically cleared, police took him to the Larimer County Dentention Center where he is being held.
