Republican Scott McInnis has shaved the mustache he’s worn for more than 25 years.

Blame apoach Josh McDaniels. Back when the Broncos were 6-0, McInnis bet his son, Daxon, the team was headed to the playoffs, and he’d shave his mustache if they failed to qualify for the NFL’s postseason tournament.

McInnis sported a mustache on and off when he served in the state legislature but grew one permanently around 1987 after a hunting-ATV accident that tore up his face and required surgery.

McInnis said he kept the mustache to hide the scar but, to his surprise, when it came off Saturday the scar had significantly faded.

McInnis, who is running for governor, showed off his new upper lip at a fundraiser Monday for state Senate Republicans.

At the luncheon, there was talk that McInnis’ hair also looks a different shade of red than it used to. Has he switched Clairol products?

“That’s above my pay grade,” spokesman Sean Duffy said with a laugh.

If the Broncos had gone to the playoffs, Daxon would have had to show up for a game in a Barrel Man-type costume or wear a Broncos horse head through an entire family dinner.
