VAIL, Colo.—Rescuers say an ice climber from Alma was hurt after falling about 100 feet while climbing a formation in East Vail known as The Fang.

The 34-year-old man, whose name wasn’t immediately released, was listed in serious condition Tuesday afternoon at the Vail Valley Medical Center. Eagle County sheriff’s officials didn’t know details of his injuries.

Sheriff’s officials say a 911 dispatcher was told part of The Fang broke loose with the climber on it, sending him plummeting about 100 feet, or the equivalent of about 10 stories.

A handful of other climbers were in the area when the accident happened.
